Is a portrait at Wrest Park a lost image of Lady Jane Grey? This image, and variations, have popped up from time to time in biographies but little is known of it. Now, “English Heritage has worked alongside the Courtauld Institute of Art and dendrochronologist Ian Tyers to discover ‘evidence of a once perhaps more elaborate costume.'” The wood panel dates from the time period and because of the defacing of the image it might have been an iconoclastic attack. I remember reading that there was a portrait of Jane at Hardwick Hall, that would be fascinating to find.
